It had a 5 year warrenty on much of system. In early 2009 it stopped pulling moisture from the air. I took it to an authorized repair center and was told it was not repairable (the refrigerant had leaked out). I contacted LG and they replaced the unit with a refurbished one. They also supplied a return label to send them the defective unit. In early 2011, the refurbished replacement unit exhibited the same symptoms as the previous one (all controls worked and the unit ran but no moisture was removed from the air). I took it to the same authorized service center - a local appliance store - as I had taken the previous unit to in 2009. When I told the counter person I had an LG dehumidifier that was not functioning and asked where he wanted it he pointed to 7 of the same units staged next to the front door and said "Just put it with those". He went on to say that he had 2 more in the back of the store that came in that morning. He... It was still under warranty, but a factory-authorized service tech. said the unit needed to have the condenser coils thoroughly cleaned on an annual basis - cost $35 - not a warranty issue. Considering the amount of rust flakes in the condenser-coil area, I opted to replace it. The LG is used in a finished, carpeted basement. Relative humidity runs around 70% without using a humidifier - 45-50% with one. The Whirlpool unit usually ran non-stop. This LG has a setting that allows it to run two hours on and two hours off, repeating the cycle, or for 4-hour, on-off cycles. Additionally it has a humidistat that can be set to a predesired level. This one can not. The floor drain fitting also doesn't secure to the internal connector and pops off every time the unit is move. Requiring you to open up the front and reattach.After all the time I spent setting this thing up the unit failed after 1 hour of operation. Error 23- Motor Failure. Returned ASAP. |
